Stedin gas network data migration project completed

Stedin – a subsidiary of Eneco Holding with network operation profile – one of the biggest companies having public utility network in the Netherlands. The company operates several types of public utility networks such as gas network, high-, medium-, and low voltage electric network, district-heating and telecommunication network.

The data migration consisted of more work packages. GEOMETRIA executed the complete data migration of the gas network concerning Zeist, Utrecht and Harlem areas.

The data migration was executed from the existing Bentley Microstation environment to GE Smallworld system.

During the data migration of the gas network altogether 8.900 km main segment network, 582.000 pieces of home pass were processed.

In April, 2009 Stedin approached GEOMETRIA again to deeply analyze the migrated data base executed previously at Harlem area, to perform a suitable quality final state, to validate new source data and to perform change management.

The project consisted of four main parts:

  • 1st part: comparison of new source data with each other and the processed data already migrated in database; the detailed analysis of the migrated database, exploration and correction of failures; standardization and arrangement of type and code panels, depending execution of modifications manually or by means of scripts.
  • 2nd part: execution of revision works on the basis of DIASYS (consumer database) source data, considering the result of comparison of old and new data; automatic and manual processing of home passes illustrated and proportioned on tif schema, on the basis of categories.
  • 3rd part: execution of revision works on the basis of INSTAP (Microstation) source data, considering the result of comparison of old and new data; in this phase chiefly main segment network projects were processed.
  • 4th part: execution of revision works on the basis of source data of occlusive objects and failure list.

The objective of the project was to put the complete gas database in live operation. This project was the final process of the arrangement concerning the complete gas network database of the processed area. Stedin put the database of Haarlem area affected by the project in practice in September 2009.
